Boosting immunity with winter smoothies.

Boosting immunity with winter smoothies.

Smoothies in winter??…

Some of our customers have told us recently that they make less smoothies during winter.  If this is you then read on to find out why winter is THE time to make sure you're having your smoothies.

As the days grow shorter, the weather gets colder and the season of colds and bugs begins, it’s even more important than ever to make sure you’re eating a well balanced, nutrient dense diet.

Enter the ‘Winter smoothie’.

Smoothies are a great way to up your intake of essential vitamins and minerals which is mightily important to boost your immunity and stay healthy.

So how do you make smoothies appealing in winter and keep them as your ‘go to’ boost for the day.

Well, we’ve got 2 suggestions for you.

1. Keep it seasonal.

Now the benefits of eating seasonal are many; fresher, cheaper, and higher in nutritional value to name a few.

We’ve come up with some fab new smoothie flavours using some of our favourite seasonal nutrient dense veg!

The humble pumpkin is a fantastic source of prebiotic fibre, which is great for your gut.  It's also rich in vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and can boost your immune system and help protect your eyes!  This time of year pumpkins and squashes are the seasonal stars and can easily be prepped and stored to add some delicious sweet, creaminess to your smoothies.

Here’s how to prep and store them;

Slice your pumpkin and scoop out the seeds.
Roast in the oven at 180°c until soft.
Puree and put in ice cube trays
Freeze and they’re ready to pop into your winter smoothies when you need them!

You can find our 'Spiced prebiotic pumpkin & chocolate smoothie' recipe here.

2. Make it warm!

We’ve been warming up our smoothies here at Marvellous HQ and we think you should too.  This is why;

Cold food and drinks can make your digestive system work harder.  With warm smoothies you’re able to get the full benefit of all those nutrient dense superfoods in your smoothie as your body will absorb them better.  Nutrient absorption is important for your energy levels and at this time of year we could all do with an energy boost!  And who doesn't fancy a nice, creamy warm drink to get them going!

So if you’re not feeling up for your usual cold smoothie, why not try starting your day with warm one.

We’ve got our 'Warm Chocolate smoothie recipe' for you to try.

We’d LOVE to hear your thoughts on this!  Maybe you’ll give it a go?  Let us know if you do and come share your winter smoothies with us over on socials!
